Before any product from Europe reaches a consumer’s plate, it must undergo a rigorous inspection process. Its foundation is GHP (Good Hygienic Practices). This is a set of basic hygiene rules that apply across the European Union at every stage – from farming and production to transport.

What does GHP include?
GHP is a comprehensive system that ensures food safety through¹:
- Employee hygiene: Mandatory medical examinations, training, and appropriate protective clothing.
- Technical condition of the facility: Buildings and machinery must be designed to be easily cleaned and disinfected.
- Water quality: Only potable water is used for production and cleaning.
- Pest control: Securing production halls against insects and rodents.
- Waste management: Rapid and safe removal of post-production residues.
Why is it important?
For the consumer, GHP is a guarantee that European beef, pork, or apples are free from biological and chemical contaminants. It is the product’s “hygienic passport,” confirming that the manufacturer controls every detail of the process.
In the “Farm to Fork” system, GHP is the absolute foundation. Without these rules, the high quality for which European food is famous would not be possible!
